The German Geodata Infrastructure (GDI-DE) is a joint initiative of the federal government, the federal states and local authorities aimed at the digital provision and use of geodata in Germany.
The aim of GDI-DE is to enable access to standardised, interoperable and quality-assured geodata and services across administrative boundaries – for public administration, business, academia and the general public.
The establishment and further development of GDI-DE promotes the efficient, transparent and networked handling of spatial information. GDI-DE thus makes an important contribution to the digitalisation of public administration and to the implementation of national and European requirements – such as the INSPIRE Directive and the HVD-DVO. GDI-DE’s services can support efforts to tackle current societal challenges, such as climate protection, spatial planning or the transition to sustainable mobility.
In doing so, GDI-DE relies on open standards, utilises modern web technologies and cooperates with specialist infrastructures to continuously improve the discoverability and usability of geodata.
The five National Technical Components form the technical backbone of GDI-DE. The Geoportal.de, in its recently published version 3.0, is the central access point to the geodata and geodata services within the network. Other components include Geodatenkatalog.de, the GDI-DE Test Suite and the GDI-DE Registry, as well as the GDI-DE Monitor. These applications support geodata providers in making their geodata and services available.
