The Digital Twin Germany (DigiZ-DE) is a high-precision, three-dimensional representation of the entire federal territory, currently being developed at the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG). It is based on a nationwide point cloud captured by airborne laser scanning at a density of around 40 points per square meter. From this data, the BKG derives individual objects that serve as the basis for analyses, for example of aviation obstacles, individual trees, heavy rainfall hazards, heat stress or renewable energy infrastructure. The use cases are developed together with partners from the federal administration and are geared to their specific needs. In this way, DigiZ-DE supports well-founded decisions in spatial tasks at the federal level.
